Our Smooth Fox Terriers are our pets first and foremost, each with a different personality and each loved for the unique Fox Terrier traits they bring into our world. Their AKC show wins and titles reflect the many years of careful breeding throughout the history of the breed, and we are dedicated to provide selective breeding to maintain the standard in honor of those before us and our Quigley!

An old English breed, the Wire and Smooth Fox Terrier were once considered the same breed with two varieties but have been considered two separate breeds since June 1, 1985 when The American Kennel Club approved separate standards for the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Wire Fox Terrier.

Smooth Fox Terriers are generally happy dogs who enjoy being with their families and are almost always ready to play. They are keen hunters and of a curious nature. Smooth Fox Terriers are easy to maintain since they are usually good eaters, and with their short, flat coat, grooming is not difficult.

They are a high energy dog and because of their curiosity and desire to hunt, they need a fenced area or to be on a leash when outdoors. There are exceptions to this rule but in general, Smooth Fox Terriers will not stay home unless they are restricted from running free.

Smooth Fox Terriers are very smart and learn quickly...both good things and bad things. If you don't want your Smooth Fox Terrier to do something, don't let it happen the first time. We have found that they enjoy earth dog activities, obedience, learning tricks, and do well with clicker training. While they are not hyper active, they are also not couch potatoes.

When our dogs are in the house, they will play but also settle down to have a nap, lay in our laps or next to us and sleep with us in bed at night. Our Smooth Fox Terriers have filled our lives with laughter and companionship. This is not the breed for everyone but it has certainly been the breed for us.
